New FSC® certified paper stocks: an overview

FSC Paper Stocks

Over the last few months, you will have heard a lot about our changing paper stocks.  This is because we made the decision to use FSC® certified papers in our factories to reduce our environmental impact and help protect our forests.  The paper we have chosen provides a superior print quality and is much better for the environment.

The following paper stocks are now FSC® certified:

  • 100gsm uncoated
  • 120gsm uncoated
  • 130gsm gloss & silk
  • 170gsm gloss & silk
  • 300gsm coated
  • 400gsm gloss & silk
  • 450gsm silk

What is the FSC®?

The Forest Stewardship Council® is an organisation working to promote the practice of responsible forestry across the world.  They set standards for forest products and independently certify that these standards are being met.  But this is more than just recycling.  FSC® certified paper is typically composed of ‘virgin’ tree fibres rather than already recycled fibres, although recycled paper can be FSC® certified.

What is FSC® certified paper?

The paper we now use has been sourced in a more environmentally friendly, socially responsible and economically viable manner from a well-managed forest and other controlled sources.  This paper is brighter and smoother, which helps provide a more vibrant print.

How do our FSC® certified stocks* stack up?

Glossary of Terms:

Grammage:  This is the weight of the paper (grams per square metre) and is not to be confused with the thickness.

Opacity: The higher the percentage, the more opaque the paper and the less show-through.

Thickness: This is the thickness of the paper measured in micrometres and is not to be confused with weight.

CIE Whiteness: The CIE measure of whiteness is a measurement of the light reflected by the paper across the visible (daylight) spectrum.

What this means for you and your customers

  • Brighter paper
  • Smoother paper more optimised for print
  • More vibrant print
  • Environmentally friendly
  • Premium paper stocks – we have absorbed the additional cost,
so you don’t have to pass it on to your customers

Using FSC® certified paper is win-win: your designs will be displayed more vibrantly and everyone can rest a little easier knowing we are helping to protect our forests.

Why don’t you tell all your environmentally-conscious customers about the new paper you’re using that won’t cost them anything extra?

  1. Unfortunately the blog about the new stoc does not mention that the 300gsm is a lot flimsier than the previous stock.

    Had to send 4 x 30000 A6 300gsm orders & 4 x 20000 A6 300gsm orders to another supplier today because of this.

    1. Hi Dave!
